One of my favorite artworks is the final piece Marina Abramovic and Ulay performed together. Known as The Great Wall Work, it also marked the end of their twelve year personal relationship. With Abramovic starting from the Yellow Sea and Ulay from the Gobi desert, they walked the wall towards each other to bid their final farewell goodbye.

Although not quite as dramatic, Tehching Hsieh One Year Performance, known otherwise as the Time Clock Piece is another artwork which explores the art of discipline and endurance. For one year, Tehching punched a time clock in his studio every hour on the hour and also documented each with a photo. The resulting body of work is currently on show at Carriageworks, with a video reel whizzing through all 8000 of these images over a few minutes.

In a world obsessed with style over substance, One Year Performance and The Great Wall Walk serve as a reminder of the importance of discipline and dedication. See what we can achieve with commitment and focus?

I also would like to thank Ian Burns for his delightful installations Too Much is Real at UTS Gallery and Extended Stage in the Goods Line Tunnel which were on show during April. Loved the shout out to Bunnings and it was so…pretty…ah….
