I thought I would have some beautiful images to share of contemporary art from both Korea and Japan, but I am afraid it ain’t so. The most beautiful art I have seen this trip has been the gardens of the temples in Kyoto – such grace and precision yet somehow also capturing the chaos of the natural world. Its this paradox they embody which is so fascinating. Proof that great art isn’t only found in galleries or on white museum walls.
Leeum Samsung Art museum is also worth a look if you are ever in Seoul. It houses strong collection of contemporary and modern art. But from this trip, I will remember strolling through the gardens with the light filtering through the maple leaves at Tenryuji temple in Arashimaya. What a wonderful world.
